Renault Clio MK3 EPS Electric Power Steering Column – Repairs & Replacement Units In Stock!
Renault Clio Electric Power Steering Column Problems
The Electric Power Steering Column on the Renault Clio (Models 2005 – 2012) have been known to commonly fail. Although the electric power steering system replaces the earlier hydraulic power steering systems to ensure more efficiency as well as reduce the size of the unit, it is still expensive to repair and replace as they still end up failing.
Renault Clio Electric Steering Column – Common Faults
Despite the improved efficiency and design of the electric steering column, it is still known to fail in many vehicles, the Renault Clio being one of them. Some of the initial symptoms of a failing electric steering column will most likely start with the warning light appearing on the dash but then disappear. The steering then may also get heavy intermittently, occasionally in one direction but more likely in both directions, and it may also vibrate when turning the wheel. If you find that the steering light is permanently illuminated on the dash, this indicates that the electric power steering column has failed completely and at this point you may notice that the steering is completely heavy with no power steering assistance.
When connecting diagnostic equipment through the OBD port, fault codes will identify the issues with Power Steering module and some of the most common faults that have been highlighted are:
- C1608 – Control unit malfunction
If you find that your Renault Clio Electric Power Steering Column has failed, it could cost you in the excess of £800 + VAT (plus Labour + Coding) which will come with a limited 12 month warranty. The alternative option of purchasing a second hand used part is also an option, which will be cheaper but will only come with a 30-90 day warranty. However there is no real guarantee that it will last, as you will have no record of the previous vehicle it was attached to or how much mileage that vehicle had already covered before being replaced. Also as it is such a common fault, it may still eventually fail.
